Curse of the Deathless
Aspect of the Deathweb
This animated husk from an enormous spider seems filled with thousands of living spiders that fall from its body like drops of blood.
When a Deathless takes on their Deathweb Aspect Form, their body contorts and twists into that of a large and aggressive-looking spider with a black exoskeleton.. Distinguishable from other Deathweb due to the fact their eyes glow an unearthly green and their backs are patterned with the skull of their original race. While in this form the Deathless has Damage Resistance (see below) as well as access to special abilities (again, see below). When in this form the Deathweb-Aspected Deathless gains a bite attack as well as natural weapon proficiency and the equivalent of Weapon Focus: Bite. Bite attack does 1d8+ strength modifier. They also gain the ability to contort and twist their bodies in unnatural ways (see below) and their Aspect Form causes Fear (as per the spell) to those who look upon it (this is an innate, constant passive effect).
Aspect Damage Resistance: DR 10 / Silver
Base Aspect Ability:
Whenever you are in your Aspect Form you can use this ability
When in Aspect form, the Deathweb-Aspect Deathless can move through an area as small as one-quarter its space without squeezing or one-eighth its space when squeezing.
Great Curse: Deathweb-Aspected Deathless gain no nourishment from normal food. Though they are able to eat and digest food, they only stop feeling hungry if they eat spiders. If a Deathweb-Aspect Deathless does not eat an amount of spiders that weigh in pounds equal to their constitution modifier, they count as Fatigued until they can do so.
2nd Tier Physical Alteration: The Deathless character’s hair begins to become sharp and brittle. Regardless of how much it is cleaned it always looks oily, and it will often drop out in clumps (though it grows back within 24 hours) The character suffers a -1 to Bluff and Diplomacy checks if seen in clear lighting. This alteration can be covered up by simple means such as the Disguise skill.
4thTier Physical Alteration: The skin of the Deathless takes on an almost metallic black sheen, with the colour of their original skin tone beneath. Looking like they are coated in a thin layer of oil, their skin is cold to the touch but none of the “oil” comes off. Though it is easy to miss in bad lightning or moonlight, the “oil” is easy to see in good light / sunlight. The character suffers a -1 to Bluff, Diplomacy and Disguise skills, and this increases to -2 when in contact with people who know them. Though they might be able to pass it off as being “unwell”, it cannot be disguised by normal methods, only magical.
8th Tier Physical Alteration: Many tiny spiders continually crawl about the character: in their hair, in and out of their mouths etc. The character’s eyes change into lateral compound eyes and the touch of their skin is sticky. The character suffers a -2 to Bluff, Diplomacy, Disguise, and Handle Animal skills.
Aspect Powers: At 1st tier and every tier thereafter, select one new aspect power from the Deathweb-Aspect Powers list. Once you select a power, it can’t be changed. Unless otherwise noted, each power can be selected only once. Some abilities have requirements, such as a class ability or minimum Deathless tier, that you must meet before you select them.
1st Tier Deathweb-Aspect Powers:
You can select these aspect abilities at any tier.
While in their Aspect form, the Deathweb Deathless is able to use Spider Climb at will. This is a passive power and costs no Deathless Points to use.
Supernatural Dexterity (Su)
When the Deathless shifts into their Aspect form their Dexterity Score increases by +4. This is a passive ability and costs no Deathless points to activate. This Power can be selected up to 2 times.
Unholy Speed (Su)
You land (and wall/ceiling if applicable!) speed increases by +20 ft while in Aspect Form. This is a passive power and costs no Deathless points to activate.
Deadly Dodge (Ex)
As a swift action, you can expend one use of Deathless power to gain a +4 dodge bonus to your AC until the start of your next turn. During this time, whenever a creature misses on a melee attack against you, it provokes an attack of opportunity from you. You can choose to either take this attack of opportunity or force that creature to reroll the attack and change the target to a creature of your choice that is adjacent to you and within the attacker’s reach. This reroll uses the same modifiers as the initial attack roll.
Wild Shape: Spider Swarm (Su)
At the cost of 1 Deathless point, the Deathweb Deathless can morph into a set of three Scarlet Spider swarms. Though each swarm can move independently of the other two, each swarm moves en-mass, and takes the same initiative, goes on the same turn etc. The Deathless can maintain this form for a number of rounds equal to their Deathless Tier x2. Each swarm is identical to the bestiary entry, except for the fact they possess the same intellect as the Deathless. They lose all other Deathless Abilities (including DR) in swarm form. In this form the Deathless is particularly hard to kill as all spiders in all three swarms must be killed to actually drop the Deathless to zero HP, and as a reflex action the Deathless morphs back into their Aspect Form when only one spider remains. Shifting to/from this form is a standard action.
Wild Shape: Ogre Spider (Su)
At the cost of 1 Deathless point, the Deathweb Deathless can morph into a Ogre Spider for a number of turns equal to their Deathless Tier x3. While in this form the character retains their Intelligence, but is unable to speak and uses all the other abilities as per the bestiary description bar two slight changes: The Ogre Spider’s HP = 52+the Deathless HP, and while in the Ogre Spider form the Deathless retains their DR 10 / Electricity. Shifting to/from this form is a standard action.
Ever Ready (Ex)
Whenever you make an attack of opportunity, you gain a bonus on the attack roll and damage roll equal to your Deathless Tier. You can make attacks of opportunity while flat-footed, even if you don’t have the Combat Reflexes feat. At 3rd, 6th, and 9th tier, the number of attacks of opportunity you can make each round increases by one.
Precise Strength (Su)
The Deathweb-Aspect Deathless who selects this power is able to strike with startling precision and tremendous force. They use their Dexterity Modifier instead of their Strength Modifier when determining melee damage. This is a passive ability and costs no Deathless Points to activate.
Normally a Deathweb Deathless in their Aspect Form walks on six of its legs and uses two to carry weapons / perform complex tasks. The Deathless who selects this power has learnt to use less of its legs for movement and instead use two more of its legs as “arms”. Though not as dextrous, these two extra arms allows the Deathless to perform an extra attack as part of a standard action. This is done at a -5 to hit and only allows them to use Melee Weapons. However, it also allows the Deathless access to the Multiattack Monster Feat which, if they choose it as a feat selection, reduces this to -2. This is a passive ability and costs no Deathless points to use.
Impeccable Balance (Ex)
Even the smallest of handholds and outcroppings are more than sufficient for your purposes. You automatically succeed at all Acrobatics checks to walk along narrow ledges. Your Acrobatics checks never take a penalty because of obstructed, slippery, sloped, or unsteady surfaces, and you can move at full speed across such surfaces with no penalty. You also gain a +10 bonus to CMD against trip attacks. If you do not have any ranks in the Acrobatics skill, it becomes a class bonus and you gain a +5 Misc modifier to it. This is a passive ability and costs no Deathless points to activate.
The Dead Have Nothing To Fear (Su)
Since the time of their death and rebirth, Deathless look upon life differently and are more difficult to intimidate let alone scare. The Deathless who takes this power gets a +5 bonus to Will saves vs Intimidation or any fear effects. This is a passive ability and costs no Deathless Points to activate.
The Deathweb-Aspect Deathless is an unnerving looking creature in its Aspect Form, but this one even more so. Their movements become erratic and jarring to look at, granting the Deathless a +5 bonus to any Intimidation rolls they might take. In addition, Intimidate becomes a class skill regardless of form. This is a passive ability and costs no Deathless Points to activate.
