Curse of the Deathless
Aspect of the Nightshade
This towering, night-black giant has demonic features, including a huge pair of ram-like horns. Its arms end in massive claws.
When a Deathless takes on their Nightshade Aspect Form, their skin takes on an obsidian-black tone and the colour drains from the clothes or armour they wear.. Distinguishable from other Nightshade due to the fact their eyes glow an unearthly green and that they are not as tall as other Nightshade (usually only a foot or two taller than their Mortal Form). While in this form the Deathless has Damage Resistance (see below) as well as access to special abilities (again, see below). When in this form the Nightshade-Aspected Deathless gains a claw attack as well as natural weapon proficiency and the equivalent of Weapon Focus: Claw. Claw attack does 1d8+ strength modifier. They also gain the ability to operate in complete darkness (see below) and their Aspect Form causes Fear (as per the spell) to those who look upon it (this is an innate, constant passive effect).
Aspect Damage Resistance: DR 10 / Silver
Whenever you are in your Aspect Form you can use this ability
Nightshade-Apsect Deathless can activate a special form of perception by using a single Deathless Point (Duration is equal to double Deathless Tier). While this Darksense is active they gain true seeing in dim light and darkness. Regardless of light conditions, they can detect living creatures and their health within 60 feet, as blindsense with deathwatch continuously active. Mind blank and nondetection prevent the latter effect but not the nightshade’s true seeing.
Great Curse: Like the Undead that they are associated with, Nightshade-Aspected Deathless are vulnerable to daylight. Whenever their body is exposed to direct sunlight, they need to make a Fortitude Save (DC 20) or become Sickened for 1d4 rounds. This effects Nightshade Deathless in both their Mortal and Aspect Forms.
2nd Tier Physical Alteration: Any clothes or items the character wears or carries seem to fade in colour: clothes look washed out, swords appear dull and even magical items seem to lose their sparkle. When removed from the character these items return to normal, and the change is instantaneous, causing suspicion in anyone who sees it. The character suffers a -1 to Bluff and Diplomacy checks if seen in clear lighting. This alteration can be covered up by simple means such as the Disguise skill.
4th Tier Physical Alteration: The Deathless’ skin begins to turn black (not dark brown as in most Humanoids such as Mwangi) and seems to absorb the light. The character suffers a -1 to Bluff, Diplomacy and Disguise skills, and this increases to -2 when in contact with people who know them. Though they might be able to pass it off as being “unwell”, it cannot be disguised by normal methods, only magical.
8th Tier Physical Alteration: The Deathless becomes noticeably taller (add 1d4 feet) and they bulk up to an impressive physical physique (note: this makes no alterations to the character). Their face is contorted into an unnatural grin which they must willingly try to suppress. Their skin turns even blacker. The character suffers a -2 to Bluff, Diplomacy, Disguise, and Handle Animal skills.
Aspect Powers: At 1st tier and every tier thereafter, select one new aspect power from the Nightshade-Aspect Powers list. Once you select a power, it can’t be changed. Unless otherwise noted, each power can be selected only once. Some abilities have requirements, such as a class ability or minimum Deathless tier, that you must meet before you select them.
1st Tier Nightshade-Aspect Powers:
You can select these aspect abilities at any tier.
Supernatural Strength (Su)
When the Deathless shifts into their Aspect form their Strength Score increases by +4. This is a passive ability and costs no Deathless points to activate. This Power can be selected up to 2 times.
Elongated Arms (Su)
The Deathless who takes this power has exceptionally long arms when in their Aspect Form. Roughly double the length of normal, it grants the Nightshade-Aspect Deathless an extra +5ft reach. This includes their claw attack and any weapons held. This is a passive ability and costs no Deathless Points to activate.
Clawed Killer (Ex)
This Deathless is especially adept at using their claws. While in Aspect form, they gain the following Feats for free while using their claws (on top of Natural Weapon Proficiency and Weapon Focus: Claws): Improved Critical (Claws), Improved Disarm, Improved Sunder and Vital Strike. These only come into play while using their claw attacks. This is a passive ability and costs no Deathless points to activate.
Innate Nightwalker Abilities (Su)
The Deathless takes on some of the aspects of the Nightshade, granting them Air Walk, Detect Magic and Magic Fang (their claws) as constant, at will effects. This is a passive ability and costs no Deathless Points to activate.
The Deathless gets a +2 to bonus to Will saves against any abilities originating from Goodly-Aligned casters or spells that have the Good descriptor. This is a passive ability and costs no Deathless Points to activate.
Giant of Wrath (Su)
For the cost of 1 Deathless point, the Nightshade Deathless can grow in size to twenty feet in height for the duration of their Aspect Form transformation. This changes them from a Medium to Huge creature, incurring the following modifiers: +4 STR, -4 DEX, -2 Attack, -2 AC. Reach increases to 10ft (as standard). In addition to this, while enlarged the Deathless gains extra phantom HP equal to their Deathless Tier x10. These Phantom HP should be deducted before any other HP and vanish as soon as the Deathless returns to Mortal form. Their can stop this enlarged size effect as a free action.
Channel Energy (Su)
A Nightshade Deathless can Channel Energy (as per the Cleric class feature) a number of times per day equal to their Deathless Tier x3. This energy is based off their Alignment (as if they were a cleric of the same alignment) and does 3d6 (positive or negative) energy damage. If the Deathless already has the Channel Energy class feature (if they were a Cleric for example), the 3d6 damage changes to their actual Channelled Energy Damage +1d6 (for example, a 5th level Cleric Nightshade Deathless would do 4d6) while in Aspect Form. Though this ability costs no Deathless points to use, the Deathless may choose to spend 1 Deathless point to increase the damage by 1 die. (4d6 for those who do not have Channel Energy as a class Feature or +2d6 to those who do).
Nimble Fighter (Ex)
Despite their often large and seemingly cumbersome forms, Nightshade Deathless are agile and adaptive fighters, moving with speed and precision. Fast Healing (Ex)
As a swift action, you can expend one use of deathless power to gain fast healing 5 for 1 minute. Once this Deathless reaches 3rd Deathless Tier and gains Regeneration, whenever they use this ability, for 1 minute they get fast healing 10 instead.
Inter-planar Knowledge (Ex)
Whether or not they have ever travelled to another plane, the Nightshade Deathless starts to realise they have knowledge of other worlds which slowly starts to unravel in their mind as they grow in power. Once per day (or at the cost of a Deathless point), the Nightshade Deathless can roll twice for a Knowledge: Planes check and take the highest result. In addition, Knowledge: Planes becomes a Class Skill for them, regardless of Form. If the character already has any ranks in Knowledge: Planes, they gain a +4 Racial Modifier to it.
The Dead Have Nothing To Fear (Su)
Since the time of their death and rebirth, Deathless look upon life differently and are more difficult to intimidate let alone scare. The Deathless who takes this power gets a +5 bonus to Will saves vs Intimidation or any fear effects. This is a passive ability and costs no Deathless Points to activate.
The Nightshade-Aspect Deathless is an unnerving looking creature in its Aspect Form, but this one even more so. Their movements become erratic and jarring to look at, granting the Deathless a +5 bonus to any Intimidation rolls they might take. In addition, Intimidate becomes a class skill regardless of form. This is a passive ability and costs no Deathless Points to activate.
